what are your top 10 works of fiction?
Thank you for the ask, dear Yasu (you're stuck with this nickname now hahah)! It's hard to pick just 10 and my favs are not really something sophisticated, I’m just a weeb after all :D
so here are my favourite stories, not in any particular order
Shingeki no Kyojin manga by Hajime Isayama, I’ve been obsessed with this for about 10 years, I hate it, I love it, I think about it everyday
The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo, I love the book, the musical, the disney version, basically everything related to this story, it makes me cry whenever I think about it
When They Cry series by Ryukishi 07 (both Higurashi and Umineko, I started reading Ciconia but I’ve never finished it, I admit, I kinda don’t have energy to start new things lately, rewatching/rereading something is much easier, but I will definitely finish it someday!), the absolute masterpiece, 10/10, we all love it
Claymore by Norihiro Yagi, (u know this already), what can I say, hot lesbians with swords, that’s all I need in life (I prefer the manga but anime is still good, like maybe without the last two episodes?)
Revolutionary Girl Utena (anime, RGU is one of those few stories where anime is so much better than manga), once again what can I say, hot lesbians with swords, fighting patriarchy, love it
The Phantom of the Opera (both book by Gaston Leroux and musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber), don’t judge me, I fell in love with this story when I was like 11 and I still love it to this day
Nana by Ai Yazawa, the story that always makes me feel so nostalgic, so sad! Themes of love, friendship and all hardships of beginning an adult life combined with punk vibes (and awesome soundtrack in the anime version!) makes the timeless classic of my late teen years. I am rewatching anime rn and it brings back so many feelings!
Hellsing manga by Kohta Hirano (and its anime version Hellsing Ultimate). Once again a story I discovered in my teenage years and is still one of my havs. Sexy vampires fighting n*zis, Vlad the Impaler, big titty police girl, blond girlboss, I love them all. Hellsing Ultimate has an amazing soundtrack composed by Hayato Matsuo and performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and a lot of very talented va. It’s the only anime ever that I actually enjoy watching with english dub, it just fits the story so well, I recommend it to everyone.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (once again both Hugo’s book and the musical), every character in this story is so dear to me, all of their struggles, all of the themes! I even wrote about Jean Valjean in my final highschool exam, he kinda saved my life hah.
Madama Butterfly, opera by Giacomo Puccini. Of course it’s on the list, I wrote my bachelor's thesis based on this piece. I just really like Puccini’s music and since this opera is about love, betrayal and suicide and on top of it is centered around japanese culture, it’s a perfect one for me 笑笑笑
Hope you don’t find my list boring, I’m a simple girl hahah, thanks once again! 💕
